Alcudia is one of the island’s most appreciated resorts. Added to the beauty of the surrounding countryside and the artistic treasure of its monuments, there is an important hotel industry and facilities, which are continuously evolving. The beach at Alcudia is very clean and one of the longest on the island. The area has become a very popular destination, and is well suited for families with children.

Location:
Alcudia has an extension of 60 suare kilometres, with more than 30 kilometres of coast line and is situated to the northeast of Mallorca. It is formed by the peninsula of Cap del Pinar, which separates the bays of Alcudia and Pollensa, and by the interior area which borders with Pollenca to the north and with Sa Pobla and Muro to the south.

General Information:
Situated at the very northern-most tip of the island. The beach is just over 3 kilometres long. On its shores you will find all the major water sports such as dinghy/yacht sailing, water-skiing, jet-skiing and parasailing. Along the length of the beach you will find plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.

Where to go:
The easiest way to see the other side of Alcudia is to take a guided walking tour of the old town. The local tourist office located on Carretera Arta 68, organises the 2-hour walk every Wednesday at noon. Puerto de Alcudia is a harbour, which is part commercial, partly for yachts. It is a nice area to have a walk, or to visit one of the many restaurants found on the waterfront and in near-by streets. Adjacent to the port the beach begins, stretching for kilometre after kilometre. The area is a very popular place during the summer. The Roman Theatre was constructed outside this Roman city in the first century AD, it is situated southwards near the road leading to the port and has the beautiful landscape of the Bay of Alcudia in the background.

Resort Suitability:
Alcudia is a great choice for families as a lot of entertainment is hotel based. The north of Mallorca tends to be quieter and less "18-30" orientated than the south coast.

Attractions:
The resort has a number of attractions to suit an active family, which include a water park and go-kart track, as well as the usual array of bars, shops and restaurants. Entry to the water park is reasonable at approximately 12 Euros for adults and approximately 7 Euros for children. In addition to the usual selection of slides and flumes the park boasts 2 large swimming pools, a wave pool and extensive "chips with everything" fast food type catering outlets. With its giant water slides, swimming and boating pools, and three mini-golf courses in landscaped surroundings, Hydropark in Avenida Tucan makes a great day out for all the family. A good excursion by car or bicycle is to follow the coast road north of Alcudia, along the Cap de Pinar with magnificent views of Pollensa Bay. The road ends in a military zone, but you can get as far as the Ermita de la Victoria, a 17th-century hermitage. For an easier bike ride, take the road south of Alcudia to reach the wetlands at S'Albufera.

Facts for Travellers:
The tourist office for Alcudia and Puerto de Alcudia is located on Carretera Arta, 68, Alcudia. Tel/fax: +34 971 892 615.

Weather:
In general, the climate of Alcudia does not differ from the rest of Mallorca, although it does have its own characteristics in relation to its situation and position. It has the temperate, subtropical climate of the Mediterranean and is protected from the winds and favoured by the sea, with a mild winter and a dry summer. Privileged by its climate and attractions, Alcudia is an ideal place for your holiday at any time of the year.

Nightlife:
Menta
, located on Avenida Tucan, is Alcudia's biggest and most popular nightclub, and even has an indoor swimming pool. The music is a mixture of Spanish and disco music, appealing to the trendily dressed 18-35 age group. Apoteket is also a very popular late night music bar playing all the latest music. Opening hours are 10 pm until very late.

Gastronomy:
Avinguda de Pere Mas i Reus, in the centre of Alcudia, is known by the locals as "Dollar Street" because of the numerous foreign cuisine restaurants and bars. Here you can find German beer gardens, English pubs, Chinese and Indian restaurants and if you look hard enough even a couple of Spanish bars. Bogavante is an excellent seafood restaurant and can be found opposite the fisherman's pier. Steak House Carabela on Avenida Reina Sofia 16, claims to be the best BBQ in Alcudia. Nova Marina specialises in fish and Italian cuisine and is open all year round.
